For some of you the school year has already started, but for me, I will go back to school on Monday. I have had a nice summer with lots of relaxation and rest but am ready to see my kids again.
I will be beginning my 15th year of teaching which is hard to believe. This November will also mark my 15th wedding anniversary which is even harder to believe. I don't know about you but no one ever told me marriage would be so hard at times...no one can fully prepare you for the unknown. We have brought two children into this world and have watched them grown into little human beings. Our daughter Genevieve will begin fourth grade and our son Gabriel will be a kindergartner when school begins this year. We hope that the foundation that we've provided will help them learn and grow but also help them with relationships at school and at home.
The unknown...this is what we face as teachers every year. We walk into our classrooms, get it "ready" then welcome the students on the first day. Some of our students will be so excited while others will be dreading the first day and hang onto Mommy and Daddy until they are pried off. It is our job to educate them, get them ready for lifelong learning and prepare them for a career. A difficult task when all you're telling them to do is flush the toilet or wash your hands or button your pants. It's crazy to think that we get them as little five and six year olds and they leave our educational system at 18 "ready" for the world.
I am always up for the challenge of getting my students where they need to be. It's my JOB. It''s my DUTY. It's my HONOR. It truly is an honor to walk in the doors of my school every day and teach the future. What a gift we have...we touch the future right in our classrooms.
It's my hope that you enjoy your school year and share life with your students. Care for them genuinely. Guide them in the right direction. Encourage them constantly. Love them like your own.
