Write about one of your biggest accomplishments in your teaching that no knows about (or may not care).
I have accomplished many great things over the years as an educator but one thing that I'm proud of is that I've been chosen to begin many new initiatives.
Initiative One: The first year I taught in Dublin was in 2007...a new program was instituted called the Extended ELI (Extended Early Literacy Intervention) program. Because of my past Kindergarten teaching experience, I was asked to lead this ground breaking movement. My 15 Extended ELI students stayed all afternoon with me working on Literacy skills; therefore these 15 students stayed all day. I was on the local Dublin Schools television program eight months pregnant and looking good. :) What began at one small school in the district is now at three to five schools each year.
Initiative Two: The second year I taught in Dublin was in 2008...I, along with two other ELL teachers, began a program called the Extended ELL (Extended English Language Learners) program. We served prefunctional and beginner ELL students in Grades K-2 and 3-5 respectively. We taught and learned with them for 2 hours each day and provided them with their Language Arts grade. We saw our students grow academically and emotionally. They had a great support system of teachers and bilingual aides who cared for them and wanted to the best for them. Unfortunately, this program is no long instituted in Dublin.
Initiative Three: My third and fourth year I taught in Dublin was in 2009-10...I was able to begin a position at my building as the Department Head of ELL. This was a position that had never existed and I was required to write my own job description. It was a year of learning and growing professionally and one that I am glad I could experience and don't regret.
I am hoping to add School Leader to my list of accomplishments soon...to be continued.
