How do you curate student work--or help them do it themselves?
I sit with each of my student groups before I begin teaching to talk to them about their interests, their favorites and other things they love and adore. I take their thoughts and ideas and turn them into lesson plans. I try to work around things they like and encourage them to explore new things. Every once in a while I will revisit the topic of favorites and touch base with them and ask if they're are any new things they'd like to explore.
I give my students the charge of an assignment and walk along side them. Of course there are times I need to do explicit teaching and I do that but I also want my students to work on "problems" themselves and figure things out.
Through my thoughts of my students and guiding their learning towards their likes and interests, I am gaining the approval of so many of them and they LOVE coming to Mrs. Eddington's room. I want them to own their projects and learning.
